HIGH PRESSURE TUBE PLUGS
TORQ N’ SEAL® tube plugs offer a high-integrity sealing solution for leaking heat exchanger tubes. They are easily installed without specialist tooling or training, with positive sealing to 7000 psi (480 bar). Regular sizes and materials normally available from stock and quick turnaround on exotic materials and specials.
Key Features:
Seal leaking tubes to 7000 psi (480 bar) with no damage to tubesheet.
Simple installation with standard torque wrench.
Suitable for Fin Fan air cooler tube plugging.
Wide serrated sealing area ensures positive seal with minimal or no tube end cleaning or preparation required.
Available in a wide range of materials, including exotic steels and alloys, for contamination and corrosion free service including in offshore, seawater and other challenging environments.
How it works
The plug is attached and retained with a spring clip to the hex driver and then inserted into the tube to the desired position. Plug design allows the plug to be installed at any depth within the tube sheet to avoid damaged areas of tube id. Flush installation also reduces laminar disruption across tube sheet and removes risk of physical disruption.
The hex drive is attached to a regular 3/8” drive ratchet torque wrench and the eccentric anti-spin cam locks the plug into the tube ID as rotation begins allowing plug expansion to begin as further torque is applied.
Rotational torque forces the tapered ferrule into the corresponding internal plug taper which expands the serrated sealing area of the plug against and into the tube ID creating a controlled and effective seal to 7000 psi (480 bar).
In most cases the serrated sealing area will seal effectively with minimal or no tube end preparation required although we recommend light brushing to remove loose deposits and corrosion.
High Pressure Tube Plugs - full features and benefits:
7,000 psi. Positive sealing in excess of 7,000 PSI (480 bar)
0.75mm (0.030”) plug expansion
No Special Tooling or personnel training required.
Variable Installation Depth. Plug can be inserted flush or to any depth within the tube sheet in order to avoid severely corroded areas on the tube sheet face.
Quick Installation. Torq N’ Seal® plugs can be installed in just seconds, the only tool you need is a 3/8″ square drive torque wrench.
Fit Into Tight Areas. Design enables rapid installation into tight areas adjacent to the tube sheet/shell joint interface, baffle plates and internal dividers.
One Piece Body Design enhances sealing characteristics by eliminating second potential leak path commonly found with two piece plugs.
Wide, Serrated Sealing Area contact zone ensures a positive seal.
NO Tube Sheet Damage. Gradual and symmetrical torque expansion eliminates thermal and mechanical shock to the tube sheet, commonly found with welding, impact due to hammering of tapered pins, and explosive insertion methods.
Easily Removable. Tube Plugs are readily removable with a simple mechanical extraction kit should vessel retubing be required at a later date.
Easy Remote Positioning. Plugs can be supplied with a simple spring ring collar that allows easy and safe plug positioning in remote installations, for example within header boxes commonly found on fin fan coolers.
OFFSHORE and NACE Service. Plugs available in exotic stainless steels and other alloys with Titanium screws for seawater service. Supplied with Certificate of Conformity and Material Mill Certificates on request.
Nuclear ASME Sec. III and ISO 9001:2015 QA Specifications available on request.
